Copley launches London housing recovery taskforce

London’s deputy mayor for housing Tom Copley has launched a housing taskforce of industry leaders to support the sector’s recovery from the effects of the pandemic.

The Covid-19 Housing Delivery Taskforce will be made up of leaders from councils, construction, unions and housing associations.

The 13-strong body includes the Greater London Authority’s Jules Pipe and David Lunts and London Councils’ executive member for housing and planning Darren Rodwell.

Representatives from London First, the Home Builders Federation, the Federation of Master Builders, the TUC, Build UK, Newham and Redbridge councils and housing association bodies the G15 and the National Housing Federation are also on the taskforce.

It aims to deliver government support to bolster housing supply and affordable home delivery in the medium to long-term.

Copley said: “Delivering the social and other genuinely affordable homes Londoners need has always been the mayor’s top priority and this pandemic challenges our ambitious targets like never before.

“The public sector must play a key role. Having begun to rebuild their house building capacity, supported by the mayor, London’s councils are in a much stronger position to support this recovery than they were 12 years ago.”
