Cool new venue for Grimsby as planners back Ice Factory regen

Plans to regenerate the derelict Great Grimsby Ice Factory have received unanimous approval from North East Lincolnshire Council.

Developer Tom Shutes, which acquired the property from Associated British Ports in 2021, will now convert the Grade II listed building into a 1,000-seat events venue alongside offices and research and development space.

The building’s ice compressor room will be retained, along with a full representative example of the ice-making process, with a food and beverage offering in the adjacent the boiler house.

Shutes’ separate plans for a 161-bedroom hotel, known as Kadbah, located on Grimsby Docks, were also approved during the meeting. The five-storey building, to be built on a vacant car park by Auckland Road, will sit next door to the events venue and offer further amenities, including social spaces and a gym.
