Some of the UK’s heavyweight contractors have joined forces to tackle the climate emergency, committing to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
BAM Construct UK, BAM Nuttall, Canary Wharf Contractors, Morgan Sindall Group, Sir Robert McAlpine, Skanska UK and Willmott Dixon have founded UK Contractors Declare, along with Multiplex, whose sustainability director, Eva Gkenakou, is leading the effort.
The body has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions, and limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, by no later than 2050.
UK Contractors Declare has been formed to give contractors a collective voice on climate change issues and is joining forces with Architects Declare and Engineers Declare to lobby the government and effect change.
The founding signatories of Contractors Declare said: “We are hoping that strong support for the Contractors Declare statement will energise our sector to work with our clients, designers and supply chains to take action.”
