CKD wins 2014 Buccleuch Property Challenge

VIDEO: The Duke of Buccleuch’s 90,000 acre Queensberry Estate near Dumfries played host once again to the Buccleuch Property Challenge last Friday.

Now in its eighth year, the Commonwealth Games-themed event saw more than 180 lycra-clad property folk, running, mountain biking, swimming – and even walking on water – during the gruelling 36km route in the grounds of the Duke’s imposing Drumlanrig Castle.

New disciplines for this year included the ‘Water Walkers’ or ‘Zorbs’ where competitors are zipped inside a plastic globe which is then filled with air. They have to ‘walk’ (read crawl!) out to a buoy in a lake and back again in the fastest time possible, thus earning 10 extra bonus minutes off their time. Other disciplines included archery, rifle shooting, discus and shot put.

All monies raised will go to this year’s nominated charity, It’s Good 2 Give! which supports young cancer patients and their families. It’s long term goal is to raise £1m to create a retreat in Scotland to be used for short family breaks.

Team CKD Galbraith were the overall winners with a time of 4hrs 48m. The Percy Plodders, competing for the Northumberland Estate, won the single-sex team category, coming in at 4hr 59m.
