Dandara Living has been granted planning permission by Glasgow City Council to develop City Wharf, a development of almost 1,000 beds at Anderston Quay.
Situated on a derelict site overlooking the Kingston Bridge, City Wharf will comprise almost 500 one-, two- and three-bedroom energy-efficient homes for rent and 490 student bedrooms.
Designed by architect Manson, the ground and first floors will include amenities such as a cycle hub, gym, residents lounge, and co-working spaces with views onto the River Clyde.
The development will also feature a new urban park for use by residents and the local community. Private courtyard spaces and recreational areas will also be available to residents.
Rachel Allwood, planning director at Dandara Living, said: “City Wharf will play a key role in the significant transformation this part of the city is undergoing and help to bring more people into the area, extending the vibrancy of the Clyde waterfront.”
EG revealed that the plans were set to get the go-ahead last week.
The Dandara development sits in the middle of a number of proposed and under-development projects, including Platform’s BTR development and Summix’s BTR and PBSA scheme, both at Central Quay, Moda’s BTR project at Lancefield Quay and CA Ventures’ BTR development on Washington Street.
Glasgow is in dire need of more student beds, with data from Savills showing there are more than 2.5 students for every available PBSA bed in the city. To reduce that ratio to 1.5, more than 20,000 new student beds need to be developed.
