City says yes to London Wall redevelopment

Angelo Gordon and Endurance Land have secured planning for the comprehensive redevelopment of Grade II listed, 1-5 London Wall Buildings in the City of London.

The Carmody Groarke-designed repurposed building will comprise of 220,554 sq ft of net lettable office and retail space, a total uplift of 11,248 sq ft.

Endurance Land said that the design preserved the heritage of Gordon and Ganton’s original 1904 design while at the same time delivering a BREEAM Excellent building by improving energy efficiency and delivering major embodied and operational carbon savings.

Jonathan Fletcher, chief executive and founder of Endurance Land, said: “The design will complement the architecture of the building, embrace its heritage and deliver a best-in-class, modern, fit-for-purpose office and retail building. Securing planning offers the opportunity for us to continue with our phased refurbishment in the short-term or commence a full redevelopment in 2022. The new entrance lobby, café and show floor, which will complete in September, are the first steps in our plan to reposition this heritage asset for the modern occupier.”

Mike Diana, managing director of Angelo Gordon added: “The permission maximises our flexibility at the asset, giving us a fantastic opportunity to refurbish an ideally located listed building which will benefit from the impending completion of Crossrail and the reactivation of Finsbury Circus.”

Gerald Eve advised on planning.
