City Pub Group is taking the fight to hotels, ramping up the number of rooms at its pubs as it aims to keep a recent run of strong growth going.
Clive Watson, the upmarket pub chain’s executive chairman, said it was looking to expand the amount of accommodation it offers to stand out from its rivals amid a slump in casual dining.
He said: “That’s the direction we are going in. Food sales in pubs and restaurants are dropping in the industry because of [the likes of] Deliveroo so we are looking at other income streams not only to increase sales but to bring in diners and drinkers.”
