Charity and social: Developers help Manchester’s homeless

Developers Peel and Capital & Centric have joined forces with Manchester-based charity Embassy to create a new community that will support the city’s homeless and vulnerable men.

Embassy Village will see up to 40 new permanent homes developed below the railway arches between the Bridgewater Canal and River Irwell. The derelict site, currently owned by Peel, will be transformed into a housing-led community with communal spaces, mini allotments and a multi-use sports area.

The charity’s vision for Embassy Village is to provide a longer term and sustainable way of helping the city’s most vulnerable men get off the streets and reintegrate into society. Residents will be provided with training and mentoring in a range of life skills.

Industry leaders join gender equality mentor programme

Senior figures from BNP Paribas Real Estate, Morgan Stanley and Deloitte have joined the third round of a mentoring programme designed to improve gender equality in the commercial property sector.

Spearheaded by Commercial Real Estate Women UK, the CREW UK Connects programme has delivered more than 700 mentoring hours so far in one year, providing support for more than 100 of the industry’s rising stars.

The scheme aims to connect CRE heavyweights, such as Despina Katsikakis, executive partner at Cushman & Wakefield, and Jennie Dorsaint, partner at Norton Rose Fulbright, in a bid to break down barriers to advancement and generate better representation of women across all levels of the property sector.

The fourth round of the CREW UK Connects programme will launch in January. For more information, go to https://crewuk.org/about/mentoring
