Charity round-up: mud, shooting and a call for coats

Glorious mud

“Just when you think you have washed all the mud off, you find a load more behind your ears.” This was a sentiment echoed by more than 350 participants in the Paragon Mudathon on 22 September. The event  raised more than £8,000 for Landaid and Heartburn Cancer UK. Congratulations to the L&G 12 team, who took first place in 58 minutes, putting Team EG’s time of two hours 18 minutes to shame.

Shooting stars

Lockton Real Estate & Construction has raised more than £6,000 for Breast Cancer Haven and children’s charity the Rainbow Trust at its seventh annual charity clay pigeon shoot. The shoot was sponsored by MS Amlin and held at Holland & Holland’s shooting ground in Northwood. Richard Tanner of AEW UK won the best-shot competition.

CBRE hits £1m target

CBRE has hit its target of raising £1m for homeless charity Shelter ahead of its 2018 deadline. CBRE became Shelter’s official charity partner in 2015 and over the last three years its employees have taken part in bike rides, bake-offs and marathons, as well as clocking up more than 1,350 volunteer hours at Shelter shops and events. The £1m raised has funded Shelter advisers in nine service centres across the UK, and helped more than 5,500 families find a home.

Redrow rides again

A team from Redrow’s South East division have completed a 132-mile cycle ride across Kent to raise more than £10,000 for local downs syndrome charity 21 Together and the Royal British Legion.

Bidwells’ Challenge

Bidwells’ Golden Triangle Cycle Challenge has raised £20,000 for CALM, a charity dedicated to preventing male suicide. More than 350 property people competed in the 100-mile cycle from Oxford to Cambridge.

Get your coat

Chestertons will help keep needy Londoners warm this winter by supporting the Calling London Winter Coat Campaign. The estate agent is turning its network of 33 offices into public coat collection points throughout November. Last year the charity campaign collected 3,500 coats, of which 1,000 were collected by Chestertons.

Real estate’s curious minds convene in Bristol

We The Curious was the name of the venue that hosted Bristol Question Time last week. And how fitting a title, as more than 100 built environment specialists came along to sharpen their knowledge of the market. In the waterfront location, agents, developers lawyers, tech specialists and more exchanged market insights and later debriefed over drinks and nibbles, following one of the punchiest Question Time debates of the series. Don’t miss our Nottingham and Cambridge Question Time events on 14 and 15 November respectively.
