Charity and social: Property professionals help raise £100k in Lake Geneva swim

Following the success of the English Channel Sea BREEAM Challenge in 2015, teams of commercial agents and landlords came together again to take on an even bigger fundraiser, the Geneva 70 Swim Charity Challenge.

In a series of open-water challenges over the past six months, the three teams completed their final event last week, culminating in a 70km race across Lake Geneva, a route previously completed by just 12 successful relay teams.

With near-perfect weather, apart from a 30-minute squall in the final 5-6km, the Broker Buoys team won the swim in 26 hours and 58 minutes, with Montagu Evans partner Tracy Collins reaching the beach at Bains des Pâquis just five minutes ahead of the Ladies of The Lake in a closely fought race. Taking third place were the LakeLords, completing the race in sub-29 hours.

The commitment and hours of training endured by the teams throughout the winter, spring and summer has so far raised more than £100,000 in donations for the Charlie Waller Trust for mental health, Macmillan Cancer Support, Muscular Dystrophy UK and First Touch, the neonatal charity at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

Guy Bowring of the Broker Buoys, and a director at Tuckerman Commercial, commented: “It was truly an unbelievable challenge, in every sense. The distance was at times unfathomable – after 10 hours we still couldn’t even see the headland beyond which lay the final 25km stretch.

“However, the beauty that surrounded us was mind-blowing and made every moment of swimming feel like a privilege.”

The event was sponsored by Hollis, CMS the West End Office Agents Society property marketing agency Siren and EG.
