Charity and social: Pride in Property shines a rainbow light on LGBT+

This year, the property industry will come together to celebrate Pride month with a series of online talks and events highlighting the experiences of LGBT+ people across the industry.

During the past six years, Changing the Face of Property and its member firms have joined forces with Freehold, Planning Out, Building Equality and others to celebrate Pride in cities across the country, and this year will be no different, with the group keeping the Pride spirit alive online.

With parades cancelled owing to the problem of ensuring social distancing at large gatherings, the group is staging Pride in Property, a series of virtual events taking place from 29 June to 10 July.

The initiative will include a morning coffee with chief executives from major real estate firms, a panel debate with the LGBT+ networks and sessions on How to be an Ally, Introduction to Transgender and The History of the First Pride.

Pride in Property aims to shine a rainbow light on the progress that the industry has made on LGBT+ inclusion over recent years and will be looking at what more can be done.

Throughout the period, the event will be raising money for Mermaids, UK Black Pride, Mind Out and The Proud Trust.

Pantera staff raise £2,000 for hospice

Staff at Pantera Property have completed a 250-mile fundraising challenge for St Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate.

The initiative was conceived following the cancellation of its annual charity football tournament owing to coronavirus restrictions.

A team of 10 from the firm’s offices in Harrogate, London and Chelmsford completed a 50-mile run and 200-mile cycle relay, raising nearly £2,000. Managing director Tom Snook clocked up a 50-mile cycle ride and 15-mile run on the day.

Their efforts ensured that the hospice did not miss out on vital fundraising anticipated for this year. The firm has raised £10,000 for the charity since the launch of the tournament in 2016.

Join JLL’s Property Weekend Challenge

This weekend, JLL is staging the Property Weekend Challenge 2020, a virtual sporting event to take the place of this year’s property triathlon, postponed owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The challenge is taking place from Friday 26 June – the original date of this year’s JLL Property Triathlon – to Sunday 28 June 2020. It is focused on a virtual duathlon and involves running and/or cycling. From a 2.5km run to a 20km bike ride, there is an event category to suit all ages and abilities.

Anyone in the property industry or related sectors can join in with colleagues, family and friends on any day(s) across the weekend.

The event is supporting two charities, Crisis and LandAid, and all participants are asked to make a pledge of at least £10 per adult to take part.

Chris Ireland, UK chief executive at JLL, said: “At a time when wellbeing and staying active remain so important, we have been thinking about how we can bring the property community together to have fun, challenge each other and support our charity partners.”

Oakwood launches global campaign

Serviced apartment provider Oakwood has launched Give With Oakwood, a global campaign showing kindness and compassion to vulnerable members of society by helping those who are hungry and in poverty.

More than 80 Oakwood properties around the world will make a contribution towards a local community, charity organisation or food bank resulting from every reservation that is made, up until
7 August.

All seven Oakwood properties in London will contribute £1 to the Felix Project for every confirmed booking received through its website or agency partner. The food project collects surplus food from businesses and donates it to charities and schools to make healthy meals.

A marathon feat

The community at the Castle View retirement village in Windsor took to their feet and completed a virtual marathon together for charity.

Residents and staff, as well as Benjy, the village manager’s dog, could run or walk one of two routes set out within the complex totalling 26.2 miles. The distance was completed over six days and raised nearly £1,000 for the NHS.
