Chancerygate launches charity to drive diversity in real estate

Developer Chancerygate has launched a charitable foundation to help black and minority ethnic students build careers in real estate.

Chairman Andrew Johnson, who has established the Chancerygate Foundation with his wife, said the foundation’s mission is “addressing the lack of diversity in the UK property industry”.

The foundation will offer a scholarship programme providing bursaries to allow students access to RICS-accredited courses at higher-level education establishments. Johnson cited data showing that just 1% of the 35,306 RICS members who qualified in 2020 were from an African, Caribbean or “other” background.

“We started the foundation with a very clear goal – to help as many black and minority ethnic students as possible to embark on careers in property,” Johnson said.

“One of the most challenging barriers faced by black and minority students leaving university is to find a job,” he added. “The Chancerygate Foundation will help those students throughout their university experience and mentor them as they take the first steps on the road to a property career.”
