CBRE’s digital head snapped up by German proptech firm

CBRE’s former EMEA head of digital innovation, Thomas Herr, has been appointed as chief executive of German tech company Evana.

Herr, who founded Valteq in 2002 before selling to CBRE in 2014, had been responsible for the company’s digitisation and innovation activities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa since 2017. He will take on his new role at Evana on 1 May.

Based in Frankfurt am Main and Saarbrucken, Evana specialises in analysing databases and documents using algorithms to help the property and insurance sectors as they face overwhelming volumes of data. Founded in 2015 and with a 90-strong workforce, the company “engages in real estate investment industry dialogue to create asset and transaction-based market platform with common data exchange standards”.

Following Herr’s appointment, Evana co-founder Sascha Donner will be responsible for the product strategy and Dirk Becker, who was appointed to the board of Evana at the beginning of the year, will take on the role of chief technology officer.

Mark Lins, chairman of the supervisory board of Evana, said: “In Thomas Herr, we are gaining one of the best-known and most respected digitisation experts in the European real estate industry. His decision to join Evana is a milestone in our corporate history and will considerably boost our forthcoming international development.”

Herr said: “Evana is one of the most exciting proptech companies in Germany. In recent years it has successfully established itself in the market, producing innovative solutions. I look forward to shaping Evana’s further growth and international expansion together with the team, the clients, and investors.”
