Cathedral’s 566-bed Brighton PBSA to be approved

Cathedral (Moulsecoomb) Advisory is set to receive planning approval for a 566-bed purpose-built student accommodation scheme in Moulsecoomb Place, Lewes Road, Brighton.

The proposed five-acre scheme consists of three distinct parcels of land, an existing 163-bed student accommodation block and two Grade II listed buildings.

The listed buildings are Moulsecoomb Place Manor House, which dates back to 1790, and Tithe Barn, an 18th-century timber-framed barn attached to a 19th-century barn that used to be occupied by the university nursery but closed in 2021 and has a handful of university administrative staff in occupation of the top floor.

Cathedral plans to demolish the existing student accommodation and restore and refurbish the listed buildings to provide four buildings ranging from four to 15 storeys.

The living quarters will be a mix of 60% cluster rooms and 40% studio bedrooms.

The plans also include student amenities such as co-working, gym, laundry, cycle storage, as well as 24/7 management.
