Cambridge FC names two sites

Cambridge United’s landlords, Grosvenor Estates, have identified two preferred locations for a new community stadium.

One option is Trumpington Meadows close to the M11, while the second is phase two of a development on the former NIAB site in the north-west of the city.

The conference league club has been looking for a new home since March 2010, when Grosvenor purchased the ground from former United vice-chairman John Howard’s firm Bideawhile for £3.5m.

At the same time, Grosvenor agreed to reduce the club’s annual £240,000 rent by a substantial figure until at least 2013.

Cambridge United projects director Ed Skeates said he hopes the club will be in a new home by 2017.
