TORY PARTY CONFERENCE: Milton Keynes Council leader Andrew Greary today said other councils should follow his example of buying up land from the HCA.
Greary’s Milton Keynes council completed a deal with the Homes and Communities Agency earlier this summer which saw it buy all the government quangos land within its borough.
Milton Keynes borrowed £32m to carry out the deal, but Greary said he expects to council to recoup much more once the land is developed.
“For the first time in our history, Milton Keynes is in control of its own destiny.
“The opportunities are there for other authorities if they want to find them, but they must grasp them with both hands.”
Greary said the council was now establishing a special purpose vehicle to secure planning permission for the sites to then develop them out.
