Caddick Development’s plans for a £92.1m redevelopment of a mixed-use office and industrial site in Bermondsey, SE15, have been recommended for approval by Southwark Council.
The developer wants to demolish the existing buildings and build a mixed-use development of industrial and R&D or office space at ground and mezzanine floor levels. The Child Graddon Lewis-designed scheme would also provide 281 co-living studios and 47 homes.
Caddick has worked on the plans with development partner and occupier James Glancy Designs, which has around 37,000 sq ft across multiple office and industrial buildings. It also owns the land.
If approved, the sites at 16-28 Penarth Street and 118-120 Ormside Street would offer around 23,992 sq ft and 19,644 sq ft of office space, ranging from eight to 10 storeys.
The site originally comprised terraced houses but suffered bomb damage in the Blitz, after which it was converted for light industrial use. It is now part of the Hatcham Road Industrial Estate.
The site is also home to New Parish Jerusalem Church which occupies the smaller building of 64,000 sq ft under temporary planning consent.
