W_rkspace has agreed to occupy and operate a business centre at Preston’s historic Amounderness House, on Lancaster Road.
The company has signed for 23,842 sq ft across three floors from late 2025. W_rkspace currently operates seven business centres in the North West – five in Preston and two in Bolton.
The move follows a proposed £7.4m transformation of the building, which has formerly served as a police station and magistrates court, by the local council alongside its development manager, Maple Grove Developments.
The project will see the Grade II listed Amounderness House redeveloped into serviced offices and managed workspace. This is one of six major projects planned under Preston’s Harris Quarter Towns Fund Investment Programme, for which the city was awarded £20.9m from the government’s national Towns Fund initiative in March 2021.
David Borrow, cabinet member for planning and regulation at Preston City Council, said: “Not only will [the redevelopment] repurpose an empty property, generating income for the city, but it will boost new footfall in the area, provide new jobs and support local businesses and the city centre economy.”
Nik Puttnam, senior development manager at Maple Grove Developments, said: “The building offers an opportunity to create an exciting workspace within a heritage asset, and work will now start with the team to work up the planning and listed building consent applications.”
