Burnham finds space for homes by tightening the green belt

More than 200,000 new homes and 6.5m sq ft of work space may be built in Greater Manchester, but the amount of green belt land originally planned for release has been halved.

Andy Burnham launched the latest draft of the region’s planning blueprint yesterday after he took over as the metro mayor in May 2017 on a mandate to “radically rewrite” the document.

The Greater Manchester Spatial Framework is the first plan for long-term development in the region. It identifies sites for housing , commercial developments and infrastructure projects that may be built over the next 18 years.
