Bruntwood SciTech to open Covid-19 lab as nationwide testing programme ramps up

Bruntwood SciTech is to open a coronavirus testing laboratory as the government ramps up its nationwide hubs programme dedicated to the disease.

Alderley Park in Cheshire will open next week as one of three national Covid-19 medical science hubs. The other locations are in Milton Keynes and Glasgow.

Samples will be delivered to the hub for analysis to investigate the virus.

Medicines Discovery Catapult, based at Alderley Park, will oversee the Covid-19 hubs testing programme.

Alderley Park has more than 1m sq ft of office space and conference and science facilities, with about 2,000 people working there.

Chris Molloy, chief executive officer at Medicines Discovery Catapult, said: “At a time of national challenge, harnessing the great strengths of the UK’s businesses, universities, the NHS and research institutes require expert teams working to a common purpose.”
