Bruntwood SciTech backs Aston University’s 2030 growth plan

Bruntwood SciTech has partnered with Aston University to support its 2030 growth strategy in Birmingham’s Knowledge Quarter.

The project sits next to Bruntwood SciTech’s Innovation Birmingham campus, which is home to more than 150 digital and tech businesses.

Under the joint venture agreement, the partners will work together to expand a science, technology and enterprise precinct. The project has the potential to deliver more than 1m sq ft of new space.

Aleks Subic, vice-chancellor and chief executive of Aston University, said: “Our partnership with Bruntwood SciTech will serve as a catalyst to regenerate the city of Birmingham, as well as provide a significant contribution to regenerate the deprived areas of the broader Birmingham area.”

Rob Valentine, director for Birmingham, who signed the jv on behalf of Bruntwood SciTech, added: “It will be a magnet for inward investment. It will also be an opportunity for us to support our own start-ups, scale-ups or existing businesses, but importantly, it will be providing opportunity for the people of Birmingham as we address and refocus our economy.”

The move builds on the pledge made by Bruntwood executive chair Chris Oglesby at last year’s Commonwealth Games to invest £1bn in the city over the next decade.
