Brum’s Arena Central office expansion gains consent

Arena Central Developments, the joint venture partnership between Miller Developments and Andy Ruhan’s Bridgehouse Capital, has won consent to build up to 800,000 sq ft of offices at the £400m mixed-use Arena Central development in Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council planners have given the go ahead to revise the existing consent for the 2.3m sq ft scheme to increase the office element from 500,000 sq ft to 800,000 sq ft reflecting changes in the property market.

Jonathan Wallis, director of Miller Developments, said: “We have received planning permission to increase the office space subject to completing a Deed of Variation to the Section 106 Planning Obligation.

“This strategy mirrors Birmingham City Council’s vision for the Westside regeneration area to provide new, mixed-use, office-led space in line with the Big City Plan Stage 2 masterplan. We estimate that the additional 300,000 sq ft of offices will generate over 2,000 office based jobs in the coming years.”

The jv has also agreed with the council to re-phase Section 106 payments and Section 278 highway works in order to assist the redevelopment of the strategic site.

The initial demolition phase at the Arena Central site is now complete. Plans also include leisure and retail space with a public square forming the centrepiece of the development.

CB Richard Ellis and GVA are letting agents.
