A former police station in Birmingham sold for almost three times its guide price at SDL Auctions Bigwood final auction of the year.
The building on Canterbury Road was guided at in excess of £275,000 and was knocked down at £730,000.
The 5,594 sq ft freehold property dates from 1904 and was sold with a large car park.
The 14 December sale raised a total of £16.6m, with an 88% success rate.
The former police station was one of a record-breaking 170 lots in the catalogue for the auction at Villa Park, surpassing SDL Auctions Bigwood’s previous record of 157 lots.
Other interesting commercial properties included India Gates restaurant at 6-8 Mount Pleasant in Bilston, West Midlands, which was guided at in excess of £395,000. It sold for £440,000.
Residential lots included a freehold terrace HMO with eight bedrooms in Coventry, which sold for £337,000, reflecting a yield of 13.18%.
