British Land has launched an inclusive technology programme to help workers get the right equipment to suit their accessibility needs.
The company’s disability inclusion network, Enable, has launched the initiative to ensure every employee can speak in confidence about getting the right tech equipment and making any necessary adjustments to their computer settings.
This could include putting captioning and altering speaker settings for people with hearing needs, and installing settings such as typing via voice and keyboard shortcuts for people with mobility needs.
An inclusive tech guide has also been released company-wide for employees to use.
“During lockdown, we have had to have much more heavy reliance on technology,” said British Land’s head of procurement and chair of Enable, Ginny Warr. “British Land was really well equipped for this, as we already had facilities for people to homework anyway, but we have realised we had an opportunity to share with people from all abilities how to better flex technology to work for them.”
Warr said this initiative will be important post-pandemic as the company continues to offer a more flexible approach to home working.
