Brandon Lewis MP launches northern gateway development zone

Brandon-LewisMIPIM 2016: Brandon Lewis MP, minister for housing and planning, will be launching the Northern Gateway Development Zone prospectus at MIPIM today (Thursday) with the aim of delivering 100,000 new homes and creating 120,000 new jobs.

The Northern Gateway Development Zone is a partnership between two local enterprise partnerships – Stoke and Staffordshire LEP and Cheshire and Warrington LEP – covering seven local authorities in total.

The partnership has been formed to create a unified inward investment platform to harness the growth opportunity presented by HS2 rail line which will have an interchange hub at Crewe the heart of the northern gateway area.

Chancellor George Osborne announced at the end of 2015 that development of the line between Birmingham and the new Crewe interchange will be accelerated to complete in 2027, six years ahead of the remaining northern phase two of the line.
