Blackstone-backed PBSA provider gets go-ahead for Newcastle scheme

IQ, a Blackstone-owned student housing company, has secured planning permission to develop a purpose-built student accommodation scheme in Newcastle city centre.

The decision has been made in line with the officer’s recommendation last week

The proposals, designed by Ryder, will see the construction of 882 student homes across two buildings of eight to 12 storeys.

The development forms part of the former Kings Manor Business Park, located to the east of Newcastle city centre. Originally, the park comprised six buildings including five office blocks.

IQ has already redeveloped Collingwood House. The Labour Building, a three-storey office block in the south-eastern corner of the site is the only office building that remains in situ. The other four office buildings were demolished.

Quad advised iQ on planning matters.
