A new 52-storey residential tower providing 227 market homes is planned, which when built will be the second tallest building in Southwark, behind the Shard, SE1. Berkeley’s 50-storey One Blackfriars tower immediately to the north will be 15 metres shorter.

A 32-storey office tower is also proposed, consisting of approximately 25,000 sq m (269,000 sq ft) of space, along with a 548-bed hotel, 64 affordable homes and 3,000 sq m of retail.

The plans will supersede an existing consent granted in 2008 for a large residential and office scheme rising to 42 storeys. A total of 286 homes were planned previously, however 119 of those were affordable – a much greater contribution than these updated plans.

Black Pearl hopes to submit a planning application before the year end. The scheme is designed by Wilkinson Eyre. Black Pearl is a subsidiary of IGB Corporation Berhad, a Malaysian property development company.
