Retail sales fell in November compared with the same month last year as a boost from Black Friday failed to offset fragile consumer confidence.
Sales in the week of Black Friday, which fell on November 23, were higher than last year, but spending was subdued overall during the month, the British Retail Consortium and KPMG said.
Overall sales for the month fell by 0.5% on a like-for-like basis compared with last year, with non-food sales down 1% on a rolling three-month basis and food sales up 0.8%. The drop in like-for-like sales compared with a 0.6% increase in November last year.
