Birmingham’s Star City gets go-ahead for logistics expansion

Asset manager and developer Quadrant Estates has been given planning for a new 100,000 sq ft logistics facility to be delivered on a 23-acre site at Star City in Birmingham.

The new development will form part of the 410,000 sq ft mixed use complex, fronting the M6 motorway. Occupiers at the wider development include Vue, Tenpin, Gravity and Costa Coffee.

Quadrant acquired the site in late 2016 with the view to re-brand and repurpose the scheme. The company has recently secured permission to build a new 4,000 sq ft drive-thru restaurant alongside repositioning of the existing leisure space and a car park.

Planning consent has also been given for a 39,000 sq ft new electric go-karting track.

Quadrant partner John Maddison said: “Securing planning for this new industrial development at Star City will bring new employment space to the market in central Birmingham, contributing to the area’s growth.

“Despite having to navigate Covid, the asset management initiatives we have deployed in recent years will ensure it [Star City] remains a destination now and long into the future, benefiting both Birmingham’s economy and the local community.”
