Birmingham City Council has recommended to approve the city’s first skyscraper at the planning committee next week.
Court Collaboration is developing Greystar’s first build-to-rent scheme in Birmingham at One Eastside, in towers rising to 51 storeys or 155m, on the site of the former CEAC building next to the HS2 Curzon Street station.
The tower of 667 flats would be Birmingham’s tallest, attracting £155m of investment from the US build-to-rent behemoth.
The application was previously deferred at committee after objections from Birmingham City Airport, calling for more information to show that the cranes will not impact the recently formalised flightpath.
Court Collaboration has since provided this information and the airport has withdrawn the complaint.
The council has asked for the 20 affordable flats to be pepper potted through the development and called for a review if the scheme were to switch from build-to-rent to private sale.
The application will be debated at the committee meeting on Thursday 5 December.
