Battle over in Waterloo as PPHE gets go-ahead

PPHE Hotel Group has been given the green light for a new 186-bedroom hotel in Waterloo, SE1.

The consent comes after the conclusion of a public inquiry into the hotel-led mixed-use development.

Under the approved plans, PPHE will develop a 15-storey design-led, mid-scale concept comprising up to 186 rooms as well as two floors of office and light industrial floorspace. The ground floor will feature and all-day dining bar and café.

Proposals for the scheme at 79-87 Westminster Bridge Road, SE1, have been being worked up since 2019, when PPHE bought the site for £12m.

The Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands-designed scheme is aiming for a BREEAM Excellent rating. It will be PPHE’s fifth hotel in the Waterloo area.

Boris Ivesha, PPHE president and chief executive Boris Ivesha said: “This is a hugely exciting project for the group, located close to some of London’s most exciting landmarks.

“This development will further enhance the group’s strong presence on London’s South Bank and add to our high-quality, well-located London portfolio which will increase to 3,900 rooms as a result.”
