A major new residential development opportunity has been launched by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council.

The pair have issued a prior information notice for Manydown, 2,083 acres of greenfield land that could accommodate 8,000 homes over two local plan periods.

The PIN outlines the first phase of the project of around 3,400 homes and invites interested developers and investors to attend a partner engagement event.

It is one of the largest residential development opportunities in the country.

Richard Bayley, project director for Manydown, said: “Our plan is to enable the selected partner to facilitate the delivery of the first phase of 3,400 homes, but it will also be encouraged to fulfil the longer-term opportunity, which could comprise further development phases.

“The whole of the project could ultimately deliver 8,000 homes.”

Manydown is situated at the edge of Basingstoke, less than 45 minutes from London by train and in close proximity to Heathrow, in an area with a projected population growth of 20,923 to 198,247 in 2029.

The OJEU notice will be served in July 2016. Bilfinger GVA are advising Basingstoke and Deane.
