Barsad Investments has got the go ahead for a new student development in Southampton, Hampshire.
The scheme will replace the circa 37,000 sq ft, 1960s-built St Margaret’s House at 6 Hulse Road with a purpose-built student accommodation block, almost doubling the current number of rooms from 100 to 198.
The developer is aiming for a BREEAM Outstanding rating on the building, which would be a first for Southampton.
Alice Moore, associate director at Boyer, which advised on planning, said: “Quality student accommodation is in short supply in Southampton, as with so many other cities. In doubling the number of units currently available on the site, this scheme goes some way to meeting the very pressing need.
WGP Architects designed the scheme.
