Asda wins unanimous backing for 2,000-flat Isle of Dogs scheme

Asda Stores and developer Ashbourne Beech Property have secured consent for 2.4m sq ft of development at the Isle of Dogs, E14.

Tower Hamlets’ planning committee unanimously backed plans to redevelop the Crossharbour foodstore at the meeting on 23 September.

The decision was deferred from the June committee after councillors sought further information over affordable housing and commercial uses and a site visit. The developers subsequently lifted the affordable housing contribution from 25% to 27%.

The hybrid planning application includes detailed plans for 526 flats, a new 184,000 sq ft Asda store, a primary school, community use and public realm. Building heights will range from three to 15 storeys.

Outline plans allow for further residential development, with up to 1,446 flats in four buildings of between 12 and 32 storeys.
