Argent and St Modwen battle it out at Aldershot Garrison

Argent, St Modwen and Taylor Wimpey have been shortlisted for a 365-acre urban extension on surplus military land at Aldershot Garrison, Hampshire, EGi News has learnt.

The three parties were among 80 developers, agents and local residents to express initial interest in the scheme, which will create around 4,500 homes with community facilities, schools, local centres and leisure facilities on one of the largest brownfield sites in the South East of England.

St Modwen is bidding alongside Vinci while Argent UK is heading a consortium.

The Homes and Communities Agency and landowner Defence Estates, the Ministry of Defence’s property arm, will choose its development partner by the end of the year with work scheduled to start on site in 2012.

Around half of the site has been vacated and should be completely empty by 2014.

The selected developer will be required to build a new garrison for the Ministry of Defence as well as retaining conserving some listed buildings

Drivers Jonas Deloitte is advising on the sale process.
