Amazon has been given the green light to use drones to deliver packages in the US.
The retail giant will now begin testing its drone service, Prime Air, following the Federal Aviation Administration’s approval, which marks an important step forwards for Amazon’s target to deliver packages within 30 minutes.
Prime Air vice president David Carbon said: “This certification is an important step forward for Prime Air and indicates the FAA’s confidence in Amazon’s operating and safety procedures for an autonomous drone delivery service that will one day deliver packages to our customers around the world.”
Amazon has not said when its Prime Air service will be launched more widely, although this latest development will see the company test and develop the technology.
Over in the UK, Amazon has already made steps to launch its drone service. In 2016, the retailer announced it had partnered with the government to trial airborne deliveries.
