The owner of the O2 Arena has won planning permission to build more than 260 homes next door in Greenwich, southeast London.
AEG, the sports conglomerate owned by Philip Anschutz, plans to start building a 36-storey tower adjacent to the former Millennium Dome next year.
The Los Angeles-based company took over the venue in 2002 after the government failed to make it work as a theme park. It has since transformed the O2 into one of the world’s most successful sports and live entertainment venues.
