Aberdeen has seen a six-fold leap in detailed planning consents for office space, further highlighting the city’s economic boom.
According to the latest figures from Aberdeen city council, detailed consent was granted for 873,500 sq ft of class four (at least 5,300 sq ft) office space in 2013; 1.1m sq ft was under construction; and 123,500 sq ft was completed.
In comparison, 2012’s far more modest figures saw detailed planning consent granted for 124,000 sq ft of office space; with 732,000 sq ft under construction, while just 34,700 sq ft was completed.
Council leader Barney Crockett said: “There is no doubt that Aberdeen is booming. The city is seeing incredible levels of investment and development from the UK and beyond.
“We’ve recorded the UK’s highest level of business increases. We are second only to London for new business start-ups and are experiencing some of the UK’s fastest growth in private sector jobs.”
