97,000 sq ft medical space in Edgbaston to get nod

The Calthorpe Estate’s plans for a 97,000 sq ft medical facility in the Edgbaston Medical Quarter have been recommended for approval ahead of a planning committee meeting tomorrow.

Building 4 will be state-of-the-art medical facility on the former BBC Pebble Mill site.

It will nearly double the size of the existing planning permission granted in May 2017 due to the level of interest from new occupiers.

Birmingham – and particularly Edgbaston – has been positioning itself as an alternative medical destination to London.

Pebble Mill is already home to the award-winning Birmingham Dental Hospital & School of Dentistry and a 62-bedroom Bupa care home, which will be joined in spring 2019 by a new Circle Health private hospital.

When complete, Pebble Mill will offer more than 500,000 sq ft of medical and healthcare facilities.

Ralph Minott, director of development for Calthorpe Estates said: “The strong interest we have received from potential occupiers is for purpose-built open-plan space for medical facilities, and this has driven the need for extra open-plan floor plates of 14,250 sq ft to create more space in Building 4.”
