£270m Swindon leisure complex gains approval

SevenCapital has secured full planning consent for a £270m leisure complex in Swindon, Wiltshire.

Ahead of gaining consent for the first phase of North Star Village, SevenCapital signed an agreement with an unnamed funder and secured prelets for 50% of the scheme.

Tenants so far include the Snow Centre, Empire Cinemas, Hollywood Bowl and mountain sports retailer Ellis Brigham.

North Star Village will feature circa 500,000 sq ft of shops, dining and leisure uses, including one of the UK’s largest ski and snow centres, with two indoor ski slopes.

It will also house a 13-screen cinema, including Europe’s largest IMAX screen, a 19-lane bowling alley and circa 27,000 sq ft of trampolining.

Once operational, the development is expected to attract an annual footfall of 3.3 million people, with a projected catchment area of 10 million people extending into Wales, the South East and South West.

SevenCapital aims to be on-site in May and expects the build to take “a little under two years”.
