1,000 new homes approved for Daventry

The secretary of state for communities and local government has given the go-ahead to West Northamptonshire Development Corporation’s (WNDC) plans for 1,000 new homes in Monksmoor Farm, on Welton Lane.

Peter Mawson, WNDC chief executive, said: “This decision is excellent news for Daventry and is an important step in the long-term regeneration and growth of the town.

“The Monksmoor development will deliver 1,000 high-quality homes, while securing around £15m in developer contributions to infrastructure.”

Two other planning permissions, one by the Danetree Consortium for over 5,000 new homes on land east of Daventry, and the other by Croudace Homes for up to 4,000 homes on land at Long Buckby Road, were refused after a public enquiry.

WNDC was the main planning authority for all three of the original applications, and supported the principle of development at the Monksmoor site.

WNDC has agreed to fund the communities in or around Northampton, Daventry and Towcester by £750,000 through their Stronger Communities Fund, due to run until March 2011.
