iCITY tipped to win Olympic media centre

Technology-based bid iCITY is being recommended as the preferred tenant for the 1m sq ft Olympic media centre.

A London Legacy Development Corporation board meeting will be held next Tuesday to discuss the recommendation with an announcement expected by the end of next week.

But with Daniel Moylan having recently taken over from Baroness Margaret Ford as chairman and the announcement that Andrew Altman is leaving as chief executive, all options are still open for debate.

Since Moylan has come into the role he has requested a re-assessment of the cost of knocking down the £350m media and broadcast centres.

And it is understood that rival bid the UK Fashion Hub has attracted a positive response for its ability to potentially create more jobs than its tech-city style rival.

The iCITY bid is described as an Innovation City anchored by data centre giant Infinity.

The bid would use the broadcast centre to accommodate a cloud computing centre, research labs, post production, graphic designers and digital education.

The press centre would become an innovation and research centre with links to higher education showcasing British technology.

A spokesman for the London Legacy Development Corporation, said: “No decision has been taken on the future of the Press and Broadcast Centre. We cannot give further details while the commercial process is ongoing.”
